Why were we Nominated?
Events Under Canvas hires out giant tipis, sailcloth tents and glamping villages to create spectacular event spaces for weddings, parties and festivals. We supply all the equipment needed for events from 30 to 500 people across East Anglia. The business has seen incredible growth since launching in 2013, hosting 180 events in 2017. We put our success down to exceptional customer service and focus, and building an engaged and empowered work force.
What did the Judges say?
Since its launch in 2013, Events Under Canvas has grown vastly year-on-year with flourishing margins, without compromising on quality of service. It has managed to retain a family feel to the organisation; its staff impressed us with their dedication and natural enthusiasm for all that they do. Uniquely managing to keep seasonal staff in an inspiring way, the retention is exemplary. They pay extreme attention to detail, and create distinctive spaces under canvas that adhere to necessities, fuel imaginations and create lasting memories. Now we just need to organise a party!

BOX-IT EASTBox-it East is a Suffolk-based specialist in document management. Services include storage and retrieval, confidential waste disposal, relocation, indexing and document scanning. The judges said: “In the last 18 months new managing director Claire Brooks has really transformed this brand. With plans to build another vast warehouse as the current one is almost full, the business is securing some high profile clients that require thousands of boxes to be stored – though it’s the return of a box at any given time that really tests this service and the ability to produce boxes on same day delivery is no mean feat. “Visiting instils you with confidence as the premises are kept impeccably, stacked and racked to the rafters, with neat precision.”

STUBBORN MULE TRAVELStubborn Mule Travel arranges bespoke tours for families to a range of exciting destinations in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Each holiday is specifically tailored to the family, bearing in mind the ages and interests of the children. From toddlers to teenagers, the company understands the needs of all age groups and all of its tours are 100% tried and tested by our own team, with their own children. The judges said: “It is apparent that this company has identified a niche in the market that is highly sought after by families. “Taking the traditional ‘gap year’ and turning into a travel experience for families, limiting their client base was an enormous risk, but this vision has reaped rewards. “Attention to the finer details, arranging incredible excursions and activities during the holiday that align and appeal to different members of the family, as well as ensuring hotels and all aspects fulfil requirements. “Their turnover, profits, growth and vision are impressive, backed up by true industry knowledge and charming and engaging staff.”
