Ellen & Ben’s Sailcloth wedding

Summary

At Events Under Canvas, we love nothing more than creating the perfect wedding for our beautiful clients. With our range of tents, we genuinely do have something for everyone. With the pandemic adding to the usual pressures of planning a wedding, we did everything possible to help our clients plan out the structure of their dream venue stress-free.

Despite COVID-19 causing countless cancellations and delays, we were able to host beautiful wedding events across Essex and Suffolk. One of the most memorable was a wedding on Ellen and Ben’s family friend’s land in Stowmarket. We provided a medium sailcloth tent for the lovely couple.

We hope this customer testimonial can help you plan your ideal wedding, from location and tipi style to food vendors and photographers.

Best Memory of The Day

“It’s so hard to pick! My favourite memory was cutting our cake as it was so lovingly made by my mum, step-dad and grandmother. I also loved watching our guests use the disposable cameras at their tables, we got some really great candid shots.”

TELL US ABOUT THE DAY:

Our wedding took place on a family friend’s land in Stowmarket. We chose to have an outdoor ceremony to give our guests lots of space and help keep everybody safe. However, we also opted for an outdoor ceremony to enjoy being part of nature whilst remaining perfectly sheltered by our sailcloth tent. Sharon of STE celebrants performed our ceremony.

As you can imagine, we spent countless hours on Zoom to help us plan out our wedding day during the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We wanted to have a great selection of food and drink, which was brought to life by a host of different vendors. Our beautiful wedding breakfast consisted of an exotic tapas platter and paella created by Prestige Catering with ice cream provided for dessert by The Sundae Cycle. For our evening food, we opted for something a little different. We love street food, which of course, includes the classic hot dog. These were rustled up by the brilliant Hot Sausage Company. We would highly recommend all our vendors as they provided an excellent service despite the difficult times caused due to the pandemic.

We had an excellent photographer, our close friend Lewis Khan. We were lucky to know many talented people, such as our great friend Madison Shackell-York who designed our wedding invitations and stationery. In addition, our wedding cake was crafted lovingly by my mum, step-dad and grandmother.

Meanwhile, my mother-in-law made my wedding dress from scratch in Northumberland. Unfortunately, we are based in London, which meant we had to rely on endless zoom fittings and royal mail delivery! Not ideal, but we persevered, and I was so happy with the result.

We chose Rose and Berry Flowers for our floral arrangements; the lovely Naomi selected our bespoke flowers whilst listening carefully to our personal requests. Our wedding was a collective, group effort; it really did take a village!

My favourite last-minute touches were our wedding signs painted by Tylerandco and our wedding car, a classic VW camper van.

We can’t thank Events Under Canvas for such a smooth set-up, keeping our stress levels to a minimum. I can’t recommend them enough if you’re thinking of having an outdoor wedding.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR ORIGINAL WEDDING DAY VISION

Our ultimate goal was to keep the day calm and relaxing for everyone attending, including us! We decided to take a diversion from a traditional wedding in that we designed the day to be styled as a summer party.

I would suggest opening up a Pinterest board to get your initial ideas together, choose a theme, pick out colours that you like, and even get a feel for the sort of flowers you want. They also include links to trendy, unique resources such as confetti, bunting and napkins.

It can help you visualise how the day will look. We wanted loads of food, wine and to get everyone on the dance floor all night long – we achieved this vision! I always knew I wanted to get married outside, and despite the weather being a little unreliable, it eventually cleared, and we got married in the sunshine.

YOUR TOP TIPS ON PLANNING YOUR WEDDING:

  • My best top tips would be to be as adaptable as possible. I know this is easier said than done, but with weddings, your plans can change at the drop of a hat, and a supplier might cancel. But honestly, no one will notice on the day that you’ve had to substitute something at the last second.
  • My only regret was that we didn’t hire a videographer – we loved our pictures, but videos would have helped us to relive the day over and over again.
  • We loved all of our suppliers, but most of all, our stunning tent by Events Under Canvas.
  • Our talented band, Barney and The Rubbles, kept us all dancing all night! Our friend Robert playing the saxophone whilst we walked down the aisle was the icing on the cake.
  • A great idea I can recommend is to place disposable cameras on the tables for guests to take candid photos of their unique experience of the evening. We loved the fun and surprises when we developed these, and they went down a treat with our guests.
