Every day is an excuse to be romantic and why not turn a normal Pancake Day into something special with our heart-shaped pancakes?
It’s really easy but you will need a heart-shaped cookie cutter. If you don’t have one, you can still use this recipe for ordinary pancakes – but why not add strawberries for a hint of romance?
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Cooking spray or additional butter for greasing the pan
Instructions:
- Preheat your frying pan over medium heat.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg until well beaten.
- Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the milk and egg mixture. Stir until just combined. Don’t overmix; it’s okay if there are a few lumps.
- Add the melted butter to the batter and stir until just incorporated.
- Lightly grease your frying pan with cooking spray or butter.
- Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, pour enough batter into the centre of the cookie cutter to fill it about halfway.
- Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancake and the edges start to look set, about 2-3 minutes.
- Carefully remove the cookie cutter using tongs or a spatula, and flip the pancake.
- Cook for another 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown on the bottom and cooked through.
- Repeat with the remaining batter, re-greasing the frying pan between each pancake and using the cookie cutter to create heart shapes.
- Serve the heart-shaped pancakes warm with your favourite toppings such as maple syrup, fresh strawberries, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce.
Enjoy your delicious heart-shaped pancakes on Pancake Day!
