Heart-shaped Pancake recipe

Every day is an excuse to be romantic and why not turn a normal Pancake Day into something special with our heart-shaped pancakes?

It’s really easy but you will need a heart-shaped cookie cutter.  If you don’t have one, you can still use this recipe for ordinary pancakes – but why not add strawberries for a hint of romance?

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Cooking spray or additional butter for greasing the pan

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your frying pan over medium heat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg until well beaten.
  4. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the milk and egg mixture. Stir until just combined. Don’t overmix; it’s okay if there are a few lumps.
  5. Add the melted butter to the batter and stir until just incorporated.
  6. Lightly grease your frying pan with cooking spray or butter.
  7. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, pour enough batter into the centre of the cookie cutter to fill it about halfway.
  8. Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancake and the edges start to look set, about 2-3 minutes.
  9. Carefully remove the cookie cutter using tongs or a spatula, and flip the pancake.
  10. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown on the bottom and cooked through.
  11. Repeat with the remaining batter, re-greasing the frying pan between each pancake and using the cookie cutter to create heart shapes.
  12. Serve the heart-shaped pancakes warm with your favourite toppings such as maple syrup, fresh strawberries, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce.

Enjoy your delicious heart-shaped pancakes on Pancake Day!
