Time to introduce our newest recruit…. Ok, so she’s been with us a year now, but we’re only just catching our breath after a crazy wedding season and thought it was high time we gave Renee our office apprentice her 5 minutes of fame she deserves.
Without our newest recruit Renee, we would all be thirsty, hungry, and possibly a few pounds lighters due to very frequent biscuit runs!
Renee is our ray of sunshine, and much like the birth of a new child, we can’t imagine life without her!
I tore Renee away from her daily duties to ask her about how she’s found her first year at EUC HQ. Her immediate response ‘I think I’ve finally mastered the perfect cuppa and I’m a huge fan of Zoflora!’
But there’s more than Renee than meets the eye, yes, she makes the place smell like a florist and yes, she’s forever presenting us with steaming buckets of tea but Renee is one of a kind whose sense of humour and terrible sense of fashion keeps us all smiling daily.
Why did you choose Events Under Canvas?
‘As a young person you are expected to leap from high school straight into college and to have an idea of what you should be doing for a career. I can’t predict my future, but what I know right now is that I want to be surrounded by people who really care about the service they are providing, in an exciting ever-changing industry surrounded by happy people that can help me develop my skills.
The skills I am learning here will be useful my whole life and I can honestly say I feel like I’ve got a second family now. EUC allows me to be me, to learn without risk of looking silly and to ask as many questions as I want (which is generally a lot!!)’
Why work in events?
Every day is different. Tipis and sailcloth tents can be the backdrop to a huge range of events – weddings, parties, corporate events, product launches, bar mitzvahs, giant sleepovers and everything in between.
Meeting new faces, making the vision reality and seeing it all come together from the first phone call enquiry to the day the tent goes up and you see the excitement in the clients’ eye makes it the best job.
What makes a good apprentice?
‘Being passionate about the company, listening, taking notes, asking questions, being brave ( I used to go into panic mode when answering the phone), adapting to the environment I’m in and being open minded.
Where will you be in 5 years and 10 years’ time?
‘In 5 years, I want to be in London, living and working in events. And in 10 years, I want to be running my own company in events.’
What’s changed for you in the past year?
‘I feel like I’ve grown up so much. I’ve learnt to understand the company’s ethos and have developed all my skills so I’m an asset to the EUC team and trying to make myself invaluable’
As a company Renee has been a real good news story for us.
We learn from her, as much as she does from us. And on the odd occasion that the office falls silent Renee is always there to start singing, crack a joke and make a cuppa!
