Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat and at Events Under Canvas we are feeling particularly festive after helping some fabulous people host some epic dos.
Think our tipis and sailcloths can only work during the warmer months? Think again! We often speak to clients who love the idea of a more outdoorsy affair, but are worried that their preferred midwinter date will make it impossible. In fact, our structures provide cosy, picture perfect backdrops for a whole host of magical winter celebrations – all twinkling lights, toasty fires and glittering finishing touches. We’ve put together some pointers for those of you who are considering braving the big chill for your big day…
What ever the weather we’ve got you covered
Winter may conjure up images of rain, wind and even snow but I’m sure we don’t need to remind you that, thanks to the good old British weather, there’s no guarantee you wouldn’t encounter those very same conditions in August (OK, maybe less of the snow). Our team are a hardy bunch, and our tipis in particular are built to withstand the forces of nature so don’t let the threat of a less than perfect forecast put you off! We always conduct a site visit before confirming a booking to ensure the suitability of the ground come rain or shine and can recommend contingencies for every eventuality.
Turn up the heat
Our clever tents keep the heat in brilliantly but they will need a little helping hand when night falls, so we recommend adding strategically placed heaters inside. Create the wow factor as people arrive with sturdy wooden doors flanked by flickering fire pits, or pop a couple of these flaming beauties indoors for extra warmth and a fun focal point (marshmallow station…need we say more?).
Colour me happy!
The ideal colourway for a rustic winter wedding, greenery is nature’s neutral and has been incredibly popular with couples for good reason. Nature inspired decorations and blooms work particularly well at this time of year – wooden slices, mistletoe and even Christmas trees will create a wonderfully festive feel, while jewel tones and foliage make for the ideal winter bouquet. A splash of glitter or gold will add just the right amount of glamour.
Lights! Camera! Action!
Never underestimate the power of good lighting, it can really lift a winter event. Jam jar tea lights strung from trees, lanterns lining your walkway, luminous lettering and twinkling fairy lights are just some of the ways you can create a gorgeous glow. Pendant lights and large industrial bulbs are still enjoying their moment, while festoon lighting has never been more in demand. These strings of bulbs are so versatile and can be used to line your tents, illuminate your dining tables or act as a backdrop for beautiful photographs. See more lighting options in our finishing touches brochure.
We absolutely love helping our clients to realise their winter wedding dreams, so if you’ve been thinking about tying the knot ‘off season’ we want to hear from you (don’t forget, you can also expect a hefty winter discount from many of our favourite suppliers). It really is the most wonderful time of the year!
